The pace of technological advancement is at an unprecedented level. As a result, new fields of education and employment are opening up. A study by Oxford entitled "The future of skills: Employment in 2030" predicts that 30% of employment opportunities in 2030 do not even exist today. Therefore, it is imperative that one chooses an education and career path that will foster a well-formed mind, enabling one to deal with unfamiliar problems with confidence and accept new information.

In order to stand out from the crowd, one must stay abreast of the fast-paced technological, socio-economic, and political changes occurring around the globe. The following are a few emerging career paths that are expected to be in high demand in the foreseeable future.

RENEWABLE ENERGY ENGINEER/SUSTAINABLE ENGINEER.

A growing demand for professionals who are capable of designing, building, and maintaining renewable energy systems will arise as the world becomes increasingly focused on reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to a more sustainable future. Renewable energy sources include solar power, wind power, hydropower, geothermal power and others. They also work on energy-efficient systems and energy storage technologies. This career path requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or Sustainable Energy Engineering, as well as a Master's degree in Renewable Energy Systems, Energy Engineering, and Sustainable Energy.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE ENGINEER.

Electric vehicle engineers will be in high demand in the coming years as electric vehicles (EVs) become more prevalent. Their responsibilities include designing and developing components for electric vehicles, such as batteries, motors, and power electronic devices. It is possible to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Electric Vehicles, or a Bachelor's degree in Automobile Engineering with a specialization in Electric Vehicles. The program also offers a master's degree in Electric Vehicle Engineering and Automobile Engineering.

These fields of technology are expected to experience significant growth in the future as governments and organizations commit to carbon-neutral goals.

5G COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER.

The fifth-generation (5G) wireless communication technology, the next generation of wireless communication technology that will enable faster and more reliable communication networks, is currently revolutionizing the communications industry. Specifically, 5G Communications engineers design, develop, and maintain the technology and infrastructure, including base stations, antennas, and small cells, that will be required for 5G and beyond. It is expected that the communication domain will experience significant growth in the future
due to the widespread adoption of 5G. The best preparation for this career path is a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering with a specialization in 5G Communications, or Telecommunications Engineering with a specialization in 5G Communications. Additionally, there are master's degrees in Wireless Communication Engineering/Telecommunications Engineering and specialized certification programs for engineers in the Electronics and Communication Engineering domain.

IOT SPECIALIST.

Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a network of physical devices, vehicles, and other items that communicate over the internet using sensors, software, and connectivity. These networks are developed and maintained by IoT specialists. Bachelor's degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering with a specialization in Embedded Systems or Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a specialization in IoT are ideal courses for this career path. There are also master's degrees available in IoT and Data Science.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AND MACHINE LEARNING (ML) ENGINEER.

Even though AI and machine learning are still in their infancy, they are already transforming a wide range of industries, from healthcare to finance to transportation. The demand for skilled professionals who can design, implement, and manage AI and machine learning systems is steadily increasing as more companies adopt these technologies. AI and machine learning engineering entails creating algorithms that enable machines to learn and improve from data inputs without being explicitly programmed. Their responsibilities include developing, testing, and deploying these algorithms in a wide range of systems. If one wishes to pursue a career in artificial intelligence or machine learning, he or she should begin by learning the basics of programming, data analysis, and statistics, and then proceed to study more advanced concepts and techniques. This career path is best suited to students with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics with a specialization in Machine Learning, or a Bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence. You can also get a master's in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

CYBERSECURITY ENGINEER.

As more and more of our lives move online, cybersecurity will become an increasingly important issue. The demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals is increasing as cyber threats become more sophisticated and frequent. Those interested in pursuing a career in cybersecurity can begin by learning the fundamentals of computer networks, encryption, and data protection, and then specialize in a particular area such as threat detection, incident response, or vulnerability assessment. An individual interested in pursuing a career in this field would benefit from courses in computer science, information technology, or cybersecurity. There are a number of universities that offer specialized degree programs in cybersecurity, which can assist students in developing a more detailed understanding of the field.

AUGMENTED AND VIRTUAL REALITY.

Increasingly sophisticated augmented and virtual reality technologies are being adopted by a wide range of industries, including entertainment, education, and healthcare. As these technologies become more prevalent, there will be an increasing demand for professionals who can design, develop, and manage AR and VR systems. If one is interested in pursuing a career in AR or VR, one should first learn the basics of programming, 3D modeling, and game design, and then specialize in areas such as AR/VR development, user experience design, or immersive media production. Students interested in pursuing a career in AR or VR may wish to consider degree programs in computer science, game design, or graphic design. There are also some universities that offer specialized degrees in virtual reality or immersive media, which can provide students with a more focused and in-depth understanding of these fields.

In order to safeguard his/her ward's future or to prepare himself/herself for a career in the technology domain, a parent or a student may consider pursuing an undergraduate degree that offers specialization in one or more of these fields.

To gain practical experience and knowledge of the industry, internships or work experience in the chosen field are essential in addition to regular coursework at a university or college of choice. As a result, one will be able to stand out on a competitive job market and acquire valuable skills and experience.
